Do you know what THE CHURCH teaches?

...Those of us Catholics who are creationists are just as perplexed as Mr. Comfort* by the comments of Archbishop Gianfranco Ravasi. Equally disturbing is the media releases indicating the upcoming Vatican-Notre Dame Darwinian celebration conference in Rome will be structured to exclude legitimate criticism of evolution [read more>].

What must be kept in mind is that neither the archbishop's public remarks, nor the "pronouncements" resulting from the upcoming symposium constitutes magisterial teaching. No Catholic is doctrinally bound by either. What is binding on Catholics is the 1950 Encyclical, Humani Generis, promulgated by Pope Pius XII [read more>]. One will search that document in vain for the support of evolution claimed by Catholic evolutionists. In fact, Fr. Patrick O'Connell, a personal consultant to Pope Pius XII, made it known in his book, The Origin and Early History of Man, that Pope Pius XII complained about those who misrepresented his teaching.

A measure of balance has been provided by republication of the 1959 book, THE THEORY OF EVOLUTION JUDGED BY REASON AND FAITH. The author, His Eminence, Ernesto Ruffini, was, at the time, Cardinal Archbishop of Palermo.

After this conference, the "acceptance" of the theory of evolution will be trumpeted as the new scientific "dogma" that all Catholics should readily accept... or should we?

First, educate yourself by reading Cardinal Ruffini's scholarly work.  It is one of the most quoted Catholic titles on the subject and has been held in high esteem by creationists since its first English publication in 1959.

Second, SPREAD THE WORD! Get other Catholics (and even non-Catholics) interested in this important topic and have them read the book too. Another way you can help is by passing this e-mail on to your family and friends.
