Published originally between 1946 and 1952, we
have
handsomely reprinted all 3 volumes each measuring 85/8"
x 5½"
in simulated
leather hardbound with gold-embossing, sewn binding, a marking ribbon, and
per the originals: red and black text throughout and
plainchant notation! Each volume is completely
indexed in both Latin and English!
Even
more important for those who adhere to the traditional Rituale
Romanum is that Fr. Weller prudently retained the Vulgate
Psalter for all of the Latin renditions of the antiphons and
psalms, while faithful English translations of the various
liturgical hymns were rendered by Fr. Matthew Brit, OSB (from his own book, The Hymns of the Roman Breviary and Missal).

As
stated in the Foreword of his first completed volume (Vol. III
in 1946), Fr. Weller compiled his set of The Roman Ritual
for the clergy "as a manual and reference" and
for the laity's "interest and enthusiasm for the rites
and prayers of so important a part of the liturgical books of
the Church." His indispensable 3-volume set was especially prized for
its thoroughness in treating of the liturgical laws pertaining
to each rite, as well as his copious and instructive
commentaries. Once very difficult (and expensive) to
obtain secondhand, it can now be yours in brand new condition
and for a reasonable price, either individually, or as a
set!

Testimonies
|
|
"I was pleased to learn that you have reprinted the first volume of Fr. Philip Weller's English translation of the
Rituale Romanum. Over the years, I have looked for a copy for myself and have never found one. I look forward to receiving your reprint of the book. Thank you for the generous gift of it.
"As an aside, I knew
Fr. Weller. He was a priest of my home diocese, the Diocese of La Crosse in Wisconsin. I met him in his declining years and had the occasion to visit with him on two or three
occasions...
"I will let the priests
(...) know about the availability of the traditional ritual for the administration of the Sacraments."
Archbishop Raymond L. Burke, Metropolitan of St. Louis, Missouri Archdiocese
"....I
congratulate you on the very successful new issue of these standard works in the English, respectively Latin language...
"Especially as to
The
Celebration of Mass, I wish the greatest possible spreading among the English-speaking faithful. It is a standard work which should be not only in the hands of priests, brothers and sisters, but also of the faithful...
"It is equally an excellent idea to reprint the Roman Ritual in English language. May the priests, but also the priories and chapels use it fervently in order to transmit this
immeasurable treasure and richness of the Latin Church to the
faithful...." Fr. Niklaus
Pfluger, First Assistant to the Superior General of the
SSPX
"The Roman Ritual was probably the least fixed or uniform of the
traditional liturgical books: different countries used different rituals for some of the sacraments, blessings, etc., according to legitimate local custom as approved by the Holy See. And the same authority granted various permissions for the use of the vernacular in these rites throughout the first half of the twentieth century.
In the 1940's Father Weller began the mammoth task of preparing a Latin-English edition of the Roman Ritual which was eventually published in three volumes in 1946, 1950 and 1950 respectively. It is an utterly splendid edition providing the clergy with all they could possibly want in respect of the rites of the sacraments, funerals, blessings &c. Preserving Christian Publications has reprinted this edition, taking care to preserve its beauty and its utility: the text is printed in black and red throughout and the books are hardbound with a marker ribbon - all of which makes them ideal for regular pastoral use.
Students of the more ancient rites of the Catholic Church will also find them valuable, particularly if their Latin is not perfect. Though such students should be aware that the Holy See did issue a new 'editio typica' of the Roman Ritual in 1952. This does not render Weller's edition obsolete - substantially they are the same - but, given that the Roman Ritual was always an adaptable liturgical book, one ought to check matters carefully before making
judgements about what was or was not the older practice.
Preserving Christian Publications are to be commended for this splendid work. We look forward to the future fruits of their endeavours in this field."

Alcuin Reid; noted liturgical speaker
