THE
THEORY OF EVOLUTION JUDGED BY REASON AND
FAITH
and PCP's Apostolic Campaign for Divine Creation
|
 |
 |
In
September 2009, PCP began reprinting Cardinal Ruffini's book
against Evolution. Despite that this scholarly
work is one of the most cited Catholic titles on
the errors of Evolution, nonetheless, it has been
out of print for many years.
The
announcement of the
March 2009 Evolution Conference in Rome compelled PCP
to make the apostolic effort to reprint this
scholarly classic.
Recently
we have launched an e-mail campaign to keep the public
aware of issues related to the conference which
unscientifically shut out any legitimate critique of Evolution,
or even to discuss the mere possibility of Divine
Creation.

The
Theory of Evolution
Judged by Reason and Faith
Cardinal
Ernesto Ruffini
Cardinal Ruffini's recognized classic, La Teoria della Evoluzione secondo la Scienza e la
Fede, is famous among students of science, philosophy, history, theology and Scripture not only for the depth and breath of its wisdom and for the unusual thoroughness of its treatment, but probably more so for the unusual clarity and simplicity of its writing.
|
|
In The Theory of Evolution Judged by Reason and Faith,
Cardinal Ruffinin addresses himself to the subjects of Darwinian
evolution and,
with greater emphasis, to its mitigated form of
transformism ―the evolution of the human body, not of the
human soul.
|
|
Against both positions His Eminence arrays the findings of
science (paleontology, embryology, anatomy, physiology,
parasitism, genetics, etc.), the teachings of the Scholastics
and the Fathers of the Church, and (most significantly, since he
is a Cardinal member of the Pontifical Biblical Commission) the
authority of Scripture scholars.
This
work, more convincingly and more thoroughly than any other,
makes sharply clear the mind of the Roman Catholic Church on the
two subjects under analysis.

IN
DARWIN'S
OWN WORDS "To suppose that the eye with all its inimitable contrivances for adjusting the focus to different distances, for admitting different amounts of light, and for the correction of spherical and chromatic aberration, could have been formed by natural selection, seems,
I confess, absurd in the highest degree."
The Origin of Species
(printed by John Murray, London, 1859) [our

|
|
|
This is a must-have book for any Catholic who wants to
understand the Church's authentic voice on this crucial
contemporary topic.

|
From the Foreword
of the Most Reverend Thomas A. Boland,
Archbishop of Newark
Cardinal
Ruffini passed away in 1967, just 6 years after the
publication of this work. Nonetheless, this
tribute from a fellow bishop is still pertinent in
understanding the profound influence that His Eminence
exercised upon souls during his lifetime.

| |
|
His Eminence, who taught Sacred Scripture for many years (1913-1930) in the Roman Seminary and the Urban College of the Propagation of the Faith, was the esteemed and beloved professor of numberless priests and prelates in many countries throughout the world. I feel confident that the present volume in its English translation will be received with grateful recognition by his thousands of former students in America who not only admired his profound scholarship and fervent eloquence as a lecturer, but have always looked upon him as a kind friend and model of priestly virtue.

His
Eminence
Ernesto Cardinal Ruffini
(1888-1967) |
|
| |
|
The Theory of Evolution Judged by Reason and Faith by His Eminence, Cardinal
Ruffini, is a case against the evolution of the body of man from pre-existent and living matter. His discussion is that of an expert in Biblical Studies. The reasons against the theory of evolution are presented with telling force and with
"the necessary gravity, moderation and discretion...." The significance and great value of the study lies in the wealth and weight of the theological and scriptural argument against the theory, although His Eminence with equal force points out the weaknesses in the scientific arguments advanced in favor of the theory of evolution of the human body.
