A
TOPICAL UPDATE
|
|
The
Evolution
Conference at the Pontifical Gregorian
University in Rome began last
week with
a bang (kind of like the "Big
Bang"), clearly silencing any public
questioning of Evolution.
Bill
Crofut (Catholic
Apostolate for Creation) had in
the weeks leading up to the conference publicly
complained:
...
disturbing is the media releases indicating the
upcoming Vatican-Notre Dame Darwinian
celebration conference in Rome will
be structured to exclude legitimate criticism of
evolution.
After
emailing the conference administrators on this
point, a response from the conference’s
secretary assured us that
“for those registered for the Conference, it will be possible to expose
their ideas during the debate which will
follow the speakers’ lectures in each session…”

Nonetheless
as reported on the opening day (March 3) by the Kolbe
Center for Creation:

|
A
Turkish brain surgeon [Dr. Oktar
Babuna, representing a prominent
Islamic-creationist, Harun Yahya] who
dared to ask a question critical of the
evolutionary hypothesis was ordered to be quiet
and had the microphone taken from him while
evolutionary biologist Futuyama stormed out of
the room in protest at having been asked a
critical question. You can see a video of
this disgraceful episode… here.
The
scene of ex-priest Francisco Ayala clamoring to
have the microphone turned off to prevent any “blasphemous”
questioning* of Evolution was vaguely reminiscent
of the incident that Cardinal Ottaviani suffered
at the Second Vatican Council; except in this
case, it was occurring to a Muslim!
So much for equality of ecumenism, where
all ideas are supposedly valid.

says atheist's theories "absurd"

An
Evolution Quandary
DID
YOU KNOW?
In
Peru
over 30% of some 11,000
burial stones (~500 BC) found since
the 1930's in human graves contained carved
depictions of dinosaurs such as T-rex,
Stegosaurus and Triceratops.
Many carvings are
in "storage" in a major museum and
100's of others are in a private museum in
Peru.
These stones are mentioned by a Catholic priest
missionary and an Inca historian of the 16th
century. Hugh

As
humorously witnessed in Ben Stein’s documentary,
Expelled, it doesn’t matter what religion you adhere to, the
notion of Divine Creation or even Intelligent
Design must be ruthlessly squashed and the dogma
of Evolution must prevail and cannot even be
questioned! If
a highly educated brain surgeon can’t asked a
simple question who can?
Is it science if it cannot be questioned?

Mr.
Crofut had some important words about this
“dogma”:
What
must be kept in mind is that neither the
archbishop's public remarks, nor the
"pronouncements" resulting from the
upcoming [now past] symposium constitutes
magisterial teaching. No Catholic is
doctrinally bound by either. What is
binding on Catholics is the 1950 Encyclical, Humani
Generis,
promulgated by Pope Pius XII. One will search
that document in vain for the support of
evolution claimed by Catholic evolutionists. In
fact, Fr. Patrick O'Connell, a personal
consultant to Pope Pius XII, made it known in
his book, The Origin and Early History of Man,
that Pope Pius XII complained about those who
misrepresented his teaching.
A
measure of balance has been provided
by republication of the 1959 book, THE
THEORY OF EVOLUTION JUDGED BY REASON AND FAITH.
The author, His Eminence, Ernesto Ruffini, was,
at the time, Cardinal Archbishop of
Palermo.

THE
THEORY OF EVOLUTION
JUDGED BY REASON & FAITH
By Cardinal Ernesto Ruffini
This classic (first published in
English in 1959)
addresses the contemporary burning topic of
evolution. Against the theory,
Cardinal Ruffini arrays the findings of science, the Scholastic and Patristic teachings, and the authority of Scripture, hence clearly stating the Church's mind on the subject of
evolution.
